Lexingtonians
During my first term on Council, I’ve worked to build a city that puts people first. I’ve fought for safer streets, stronger neighborhoods, better public services, access to housing, environmental protection, workers’ rights, and a local government that listens to its residents and delivers for them.
I’ve shown up, done the work, and delivered tangible results for my constituents.
Here’s a list of 40 accomplishments I’ve made in my first term (so far…)
1. Created Lexington’s First Government AI Usage Policy
I spearheaded the creation and enactment of Lexington’s first comprehensive AI Usage Policy, establishing standards for human oversight, responsible use, data protection, and transparency in city government.
2. Secured Investments in Fixing Nicholasville Road
I worked directly with state officials, including the Governor’s Office and KYTC, to secure commitments for improvements to Nicholasville Road and continued advocating for investment in one of the 4th District’s most important transportation corridors. Some items I advocated for were included in the Governor’s 2026 Recommended Highway Plan but were denied by the Republican supermajority in the General Assembly.
3. Enacted a Data Center Moratorium
I pushed hard and successfully secured a moratorium on new data center development, creating time for Lexington to evaluate the potential impacts of data centers on energy, water, infrastructure, land use, and surrounding communities.
4. Passed the Animal Care Ordinance
I sponsored and passed the Animal Care Ordinance, which strengthened protections for neglected animals, animals left outside in dangerous weather conditions, and animals seized in cruelty cases.
5. Put Opioid-Abatement Funds to Work
I worked with the Lexington Nonprofit Coalition to release $5.2 million in opioid-abatement funds and successfully secured a $2.2 million commitment toward permanent supportive housing for people experiencing both homelessness and addiction.
6. Created the Wilson Downing Mini-Roundabout
I initiated, secured funding for, and oversaw construction of the Wilson Downing mini-roundabout as a traffic-safety improvement at an intersection that constituents had consistently voiced concerns about.
7. Protected Mental Health Services
As its sponsor in the Social Services and Public Safety Committee, I ensured that our city continued funding NAMI and our Mental Health Court, which are vital mental health resources for our community.
8. Held the Mayor’s Administration Accountable for Winter Weather Response
After Lexington’s troubled 2026 winter weather response, I pushed the Mayor’s administration to take responsibility for what went wrong and demanded meaningful improvements rather than accepting another inadequate response. The city’s own after-action review identified significant shortcomings in operational strategy, resource capacity, communication, training, and incident management. I have pushed for greater transparency, accountability, and concrete changes to ensure Lexington is better prepared for the next major winter storm.
9. Restored Pride Prom
I successfully secured Council funding to ensure that Lexington’s Pride Prom continued after funding was cut due to anti-DEI policies at the state and federal level, maintaining a community event for LGBTQ+ young people to celebrate with their peers in a safe and welcoming environment.
10. Released the Nicholasville Road Transportation Study
As a member of the Lexington Area MPO’s Transportation Policy Committee, I secured the public release of the U.S. 27 Transportation Feasibility Study, Traffic, and Transit Analysis, bringing information about the future of the Nicholasville Road corridor into the public discussion.
11. Secured Improvements for the Lexington History Museum
I secured funding for capital improvements at the Lexington History Museum, helping move forward a project focused on preserving historical materials and telling Lexington’s story to future generations.
12. Advanced Roundabout Safety Planning
I co-sponsored a citywide Roundabout Feasibility Study to identify intersections where roundabouts could improve traffic flow and safety—including here in the 4th District.
13. Stood Up for UK Workers
The University of Kentucky is one of the 4th District’s largest employers, and I advocated for constituents who raised concerns about their treatment at work. I worked with United Campus Workers on their Protect Our Services campaign and used my position on Council to stand with workers fighting for fair treatment, better working conditions, and the preservation of essential services.
14. Launched the Home Modification Program
I helped launch Lexington’s Home Modification Program, providing seniors with home modifications designed to improve accessibility and safety and allowing them to age with dignity in their own homes.
15. Improved Lexington’s Flooding Response
I co-sponsored a legislative item with Councilmember Dave Sevigny to overhaul Lexington’s approach to stormwater and flooding, focusing on better planning, infrastructure, and citywide coordination.
16. Rebuilt Belleau Wood Tennis Courts
When progress stalled on the long-awaited construction of the Belleau Wood Tennis Courts, I successfully got the project back on track and oversaw it through to its completion.
17. Paid Off School Lunch Debt for FCPS Families
I proudly partnered with The Dahlhus Fund and Bluegrass Community Foundation to purchase and pay off more than $12,000 in outstanding school lunch debt for Fayette County Public Schools families in need.
18. Improved Pedestrian Signal Safety
I co-sponsored a legislative item focusing on improvements to pedestrian signals, crossing timing, and intersection operations to improve conditions for people walking at busy intersections.
19. Challenged Millions in New City Hall Spending
I believe our local government should put people’s needs ahead of grand projects, which is why I challenged the Mayor’s administration and my colleagues over committing tens of millions of dollars to a new City Hall while residents faced homelessness, housing insecurity, and gaps in essential services. I pushed to put those priorities at the center of the conversation and demanded greater transparency about how public dollars were being spent.
20. Provided Consistent Constituent Service
I made constituent service a central part of my first term, attending neighborhood meetings, speaking directly with residents, following individual concerns through the city process, and turning constituent priorities into action on issues ranging from dangerous intersections and deteriorated pavement to stormwater, parks, senior services, neighborhood development, public safety, and access to city government.
21. Protected Agricultural Land in Solar Zoning
I successfully amended Lexington’s solar zoning legislation to strengthen protections for agricultural land while allowing for increased renewable energy development.
22. Secured Investments in Veterans Park
I helped secure capital funding and advance projects at Veterans Park, supporting improvements to accessibility and recreation. I also invested in its role as a community gathering and remembrance space by bringing a memorial to Veterans Park honoring Lexington-area service members who lost their lives during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
23. Strengthened Community Response to Gun Violence
I have personally met with victims, families, and residents impacted by incidents of gun violence in the 4th District and worked with One Lexington and the Lexington Police Department to improve communication, responsiveness, and connections to community resources.
24. Created a Development Liaison Position
I pushed for the creation of a development liaison position to improve coordination and predictability within Lexington’s development process, which will help us effectively address our citywide housing shortage.
25. Secured Man O’ War Boulevard Repaving
I successfully advocated to our partners at the state level for the repaving of Man O’ War Boulevard between Nicholasville Road and Tates Creek Road, addressing deteriorated pavement along a heavily traveled corridor serving 4th District residents.
26. Overhauled Boards and Commissions
As a member of the Subcommittee on Boards and Commissions, I’ve worked to overhaul Lexington’s boards and commissions and fought for guaranteed renter representation to ensure renters have a meaningful seat at the table in our local government.
27. Made Kirklevington Park Improvements
I fought for improvements to Kirklevington Park in response to neighborhood concerns and worked with city departments and community partners to address park needs—from trimming overgrown bushes and improving the grounds to repairing the well-used pickleball courts.
28. Secured Additional Winter Weather Funding
Following the 2025 winter weather event, I pushed for additional resources for snow and ice response. The Mayor subsequently committed millions in additional funding for future winter weather operations.
29. Funded Improvements at Sayre Christian Village
I secured funding for multiple improvements at Sayre Christian Village, including a $33,000 freezer, $12,500 in dining chairs, a $3,500 receiving door, and $5,500 toward the Memory Care Neighborhood Refresh project.
30. Advanced Traffic Signal Improvements on Tates Creek Road
I advocated for improvements to traffic operations along Tates Creek Road, helping advance a project to optimize 28 traffic signals along Tates Creek Road and connecting corridors. Improving signal timing and coordination will help reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, and make one of Lexington’s busiest corridors safer and more predictable for everyone who uses it.
31. Created a Community Orchard
I funded and worked with Seedleaf on the creation of a community orchard at Central Baptist Church, expanding access to locally grown food and creating a shared neighborhood resource.
32. Improved Development Notification
I successfully amended our House Bill 443 Zoning Ordinance to require that occupants—not just property owners, as proposed—are notified of new development near them, providing renters with meaningful information about development proposals impacting them and their neighborhoods.
33. Made Pedestrian Improvements Along Redding Road
I advocated for pedestrian improvements along Redding Road to make it safer and easier for residents to walk between neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and other destinations. Additional improvements, including a crosswalk with a pedestrian refuge connecting The Oaks to Kirklevington Park, will further improve pedestrian safety in the corridor.
34. Expanded Access to Public Transportation
I helped secure $725,000 for Lexington’s first microtransit pilot, bringing flexible, on-demand transportation to Lexingtonians. The 12-month pilot provides curb-to-curb service designed to supplement LexTran’s fixed-route and paratransit systems, giving residents another way to get to work, appointments, services, and other essential destinations.
35. Launched a Traffic-Circle Quick-Build Pilot
I co-sponsored a quick-build traffic-circle pilot that allowed the city to test traffic-calming designs before making larger permanent investments.
36. Brought Community Pop-Ups Into Neighborhoods
I partnered with One Lexington, Fayette County Public Schools, and Grace United Church to hold Community Pop-Up events, bringing information, services, and community resources directly into neighborhoods and making it easier for residents to connect with the support they need.
37. Improved Pedestrian Safety Throughout the 4th District
I have consistently secured repairs and improvements to our sidewalks, crosswalks, crossing signals, and other pedestrian infrastructure throughout the 4th District to make it safer for residents to walk to schools, parks, businesses, and neighborhood destinations.
38. Expanded Safe Firearm Storage
I helped launch a new city partnership to distribute free gun locks to Lexington residents, giving families a simple, accessible tool to safely store firearms and reduce the risk of accidental shootings and unauthorized access. I advocated for city funding for the initiative and worked to make firearm-safety resources available to residents without cost or barriers.
39. Kept Residents Informed
Throughout my first term, I have regularly shared “What I Did This Week” updates, giving residents information about the work I was doing in the District, issues before Council, and decisions being considered at City Hall. I believe residents deserve to know what their elected officials are doing and how decisions made at City Hall affect their communities.
40. Invested in Lexington’s Arts and Culture
I’ve fought to maintain and expand Lexington’s investment in the arts, supporting funding for local arts organizations and cultural programs that make our city a vibrant place to live and work. I helped secure continued city support for LexArts and advocated for capital investments that strengthen arts organizations and expand access to arts and cultural programming. I have centered this work on investing in the local Lexington artists who make our city a more vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
